Last year I quit my job to follow my passion. Teaching wheelchair users to capture independence.
I’ve been a full time wheelchair user for the last 16 years and I was lucky enough to learn wheelchair skills early on after my injury. It’s not an exaggeration to say that learning wheelchair skills shaped my life.
Whether it was all the travelling through inaccessible environments in pre-demic times, building a career in programme development, waterskiing from the back of a boat at 40 kph or enjoying all that London has to offer, having the skills to get around has meant I can do it all.
I believe that having wheelchair skills is a fundamental right and this led me to found The Wheelchair Skills College, with the aim of giving every wheelchair user access to wheelchair skills training to build confidence and gain independence.
Check out my website www.wheelchairskills.org and if you’d like to chat wheelchair skills then drop me a message.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxWarrington, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxWarrington event, TED Talks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
