About TEDx
x = independently organized event
In the spirit of discovering and spreading ideas, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
About TED
TED is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to discovering, debating and spreading ideas that spark conversation, deepen understanding and drive meaningful change. Our organization is devoted to curiosity, reason, wonder and the pursuit of knowledge — without an agenda. We welcome people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world and connection with others, and we invite everyone to engage with ideas and activate them in your community.
TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, but today it spans a multitude of worldwide communities and initiatives exploring everything from science and business to education, arts and global issues. In addition to the TED Talks curated from our annual conferences and published on TED.com, we produce original podcasts, short video series, animated educational lessons (TED-Ed) and TV programs that are translated into more than 100 languages and distributed via partnerships around the world. Each year, thousands of independently run TEDx events bring people together to share ideas and bridge divides in communities on every continent. Through the Audacious Project, TED has helped catalyze more than $3 billion in funding for projects that seek to make the world more beautiful, sustainable and just. In 2020, TED launched Countdown, an initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis and mobilize a movement for a net-zero future, and in 2023 TED launched TED Democracy to spark a new kind of conversation focused on realistic pathways towards a more vibrant and equitable future. About TEDx Warrington
The Warrington license was originally applied for in 2019 by Warrington business owner and resident, Kirsty James, who saw the potential to bring the global TED brand to the Warrington community. The news received thousands of messages and social interactions. After event postponements in both 2020 and 2021, the inaugural event took place in June 2022 (theme: Build Connection, Strengthen Communities) and was hailed by the local media as one of the best events the town had ever seen.Â
The second TEDxWarrington took place on 16 November 2023 (theme: Tackling Adversity, Embracing Change).
In 2024, Kirsty attended the global TED Conference in Atlanta to upgrade her town license. In addition, Kirsty became a speaker in her own right at TEDxNorthwich with her talk: Building a Legacy: The Power of Collective Achievement.
As a result, 2025 will now see TEDxWarrington operate on a larger scale, theme: Identity and Purpose.
About the TEDxWarrington Team
As TEDx events operate non-commercially, the organising team offers their time voluntarily, as do many of the external support team. TEDxWarrington is headed by licensee and organiser Kirsty James and includes a large team that provides support and expertise in the fields of marketing, operations, communications, finances, web development, design and photography.

For 2025, we are delighted to be working with Warrington Youth Zone who will host the event in their purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility for the town’s young people. It builds on the fantastic work and legacy of Warrington Youth Club and offers a great location for this year’s event.
The event theme is ‘Identity & Purpose’, aimed at encouraging fresh ideas that reflect diversity, innovative spirit and strength of character.
TEDxWarrington brings an abundance of exciting, positive opportunities for sponsors and the organising team are working hard to create another unforgettable event with talks and performance that will create lasting local impact. This year’s event offers sponsors increased networking and promotional opportunities plus the chance for behind-the-scenes experiences and involvement in community impact initiatives.

What do TEDxWarrington events look like?
Each year, we change venue, to share the TEDx opportunity with different Warrington venues. No single event will ever look and feel the same because the venue, our event themes and production creativity changes varies each time to embrace new ideas.
Filming of TEDx events is also strictly prohibited which means that attendees to a live event benefit from a unique event experience, witnessing new talks and performance before they reach the world. Only our approved videography partner, Prism Studios, has the rights to film the talks. In 2023, we also involved students from Warrington & Vale Royal College to produce vox pops and the showreel featured here in order to capture highlights from that year’s event.
